A distinguished rugby career in New Zealand and Japan saw Angus representing both countries at national level. He was the first, and is still the only, non-Japanese player to captain a national team in any sport in Japan, culminating when he led the team at the 1999 Rugby World Cup. In 2000 he received the Japan Sports Personality of the Year Award and in 2004 was awarded a certificate of appreciation from the Mayor of Kamaishi City. Angus has returned to New Zealand after living abroad for eleven years and is passionate about reciprocating the hospitality shown to him while living overseas. Angus speaks fluent Japanese and Portuguese.
